Today You Can Save 1 Child from Becoming a Statistic

Today....
  • 30,000 children will die because they were living in extreme poverty.
  • 1,150 children will be infected by HIV/AIDS.
  • 300,000 children are serving in government or rebel armies.
  • 1.1 billion people do not have access to safe water. 13,700 will die (4,930 of them are children).
  • 90 million primary school-aged children are not in school.
  • In Canada, 0.6% of the children born will not live to see their 5th birthday. In Sierre Leone, 27.8% of children will not.
  • 963 million people suffer from malnutrition.
  • You will use 335 litres of water. Someone in a developing country will use 10 litres.
  • The world’s richest countries will spend $85 million on ice cream. Just $27 million in new aid would ensure universal access to primary education.
  • You might spend $39 going out to dinner, filling up your gas tank, or on your cable bill.  A woman in a developing country might sell her body for less than $1 to buy food for her children.
